Wow! It’s almost been a month since a last update. The building has been turned over to us and Pearce is no longer on site. They will still check in occasionally to coordinate some final installations like air ducts and lighting. We passed all our fire codes to begin working in the building now so we’ve been bringing in volunteers during the week and on the weekends. Currently we are hanging a lot of drywall. Our own volunteers are also  finishing some of the indoor wall framing. If you are interested in helping with any skill or aspect of the project, feel free to call the church office at 660-747-9186 or the best way would be to contact the volunteer coordinator directly, Harold Knight. His email address is hknight [at] fbcwburg [dot] org. The webcam has been acting up and has currently been out of service. There isn’t much changing that it can see anyway so it’s not a top priority. I may see about moving it indoors though.

This weekend several buildings who attend the church showed up Saturday and worked on framing out a few of the walls on the inside. One of them was in the main foyer area. It drops down from the ceiling of the high part to the level of the drop ceiling in the low part. The other part that was worked on was down at the foyer for the kids zone area. It will be an all hard ceiling above that area. This previous week another church member hung drywall down the entire west side of the hall way. Sure makes things look like they are coming together. Pearce and other contractors are still working on the grounds. They have done a great job of forming a curbing system all the way from Hale Lake road up to the parking lots. They have removed the jagged section between the lower lot and upper lot and will redo that, this is why that upper lot is closed for the time being. They are currently waiting on a company to come in a pour the concrete for the fire lane, then I think they/we will start on some landscaping.

The roof of the canopy is going on, outdoor lighting and other fixtures are being installed, and gutters / downspouts are being installed. These are the last few steps before we gain the building!

Doors and Webcam

21 06 2010

Doors are going in! The majority of all the windows are in, and it’s looking good. They have already moved our current doors into the area which will be knocked all the way out, but they won’t pull those out until all the new foyer doors are installed. They also got a lot of the top of the drive through area finished, and are working on the beams for the hangover now. The glass people also moved and added another set of double doors entering the children’s building. Things are moving right along, and it’s looking good. Enjoy the pictures.

*If you have been checking the webcam lately, you may have noticed it wasn’t updating recently. I do believe the camera for the web cam finally bit the dust. I’m not sure how many exposures it had but it had to be in the area of 68,000 pictures. That’s much more than I thought it would go. I did have a backup, and installed it this weekend, hopefully it will work from here on out.

June

1 06 2010

It is now June and the majority of contracted construction is beginning to see its end. The people working on this project have done an out standing job. Some things going on recently are the windows, electrical, canopy, exterior aesthetic touches, and today, more parking lot destruction. The majority of the window frames have been installed and the glass is being installed in them this week. The doors are also supposed to arrive some time later this week. The brick layers have done a great job on the entrance and the exterior of the building along with framing the new doors to the coffee shop area. The fire alarm is still being installed, and should be completed soon. There is scaffolding all up the entrance area with guys working on the canopy area. It also looks like a lot of the flashing has been installed on the roof, with just a little more to go. Today they rearranged the construction trailer and connex to allow the track loader to come in and clean up all the asphalt in preparation of the drop-off / fire lane. Big changes are happing. Once the contractors are finished, Pearce will be turning the building over to us. This is where we need you! If you have any skill set or willing to be taught one, we want you! If you have any interest in working on the building to help it complete please email the church facilities director Harold Knight at hknight[at]fbcwburg[dot]org, or call him at the church office, 660-747-9186. We look forward to hearing from you and to see this project complete!

Well today they got power fed into the new disconnect for the expansion. This is a good thing, it means things are moving right along. They got a lot of the walls insulated. Masons are still laying brick. Electricians are starting to pull wire. Roofers are still installing flashing on the roof to help water proof the seams. The glass people are installing windows, doors should be in sometime soon. And someone is installing the fire curtain, a giant fire proof wall that will drop from the ceiling to separate the two buildings in the event of a fire. It is predicted Pearce construction will pull off site at the end of the month, that means we can take it over soon.

They are cutting power to all of our buildings today to wire in the new expansion. They expect it to last about two hours. During this time the webcam will not be updating.

Still doing brick work, both installing and removing. The electricians are still working with the wiring. The roof top units are now wired and plummed. Metal sheeting is being installed on top of the parapet walls. A load of insulation was dropped off and will soon be installed.

The masons are still hard at it laying brick all around the building. It looks like they finished up on the East side of the building today. They are still working on the south end and work started on the airlock area. It looks like the majority of the sprinkler system is in and is being pressure tested. The electricians are still hard at work putting in all the demanded conduit runs. Carter glass has also come onto the job and has begun to install the frames for the windows, they will look sharp! They have also begun to break out the brick from the outside of the existing building in preparation of opening the two. The women’s restroom has also been completed and looks great!

20 04 2010

Hi everyone, sorry about the lack of updates lately.

A LOT has been going on. I believe all of the roof is complete now along with the roof drain piping. The roof top units were set in place on Monday and Tempcon has been busy installing duct work throughout the area. Eldecon is still busy at it roughing in conduit into all the walls and setting switch gear. A lot if not all of the exterior sheathing has been installed and is being sealed. The masons have finished the long vestibule area and children’s portion on the west side. They are beginning to lay brick on the south end of the building and on the east side of the foyer between the two buildings. It’s looking great! Jayhawk fire has also moved in on site and is installing many feet of fire sprinkler piping.

4-12-10

12 04 2010

Today the roofers got most of the last layer of the roofing material put on. The electrician has been hard at work roughing in the conduit for the electric, and the brick layers are speeding right along. Also, the guys have been hard at work on the woman’s restroom. They already have replaced the ceiling tiles and laid the ceramic floor tile, and they were texturing the walls today.

7 04 2010

A few things have been going on and finishing up here lately.

  • Most all of the masonry flashing has been installed.
  • Most of the roof has been tarred and water-proofed.
  • Most of the parapet walls have been installed.
  • Holes have been cut in the roof to allow HVAC supply and return ducts to pass through.
  • Storm drain piping is being installed.
  • Electrical rough in continues.
  • Vestibule framing.

Next things on the list to get started:

  • Set switch gear
  • Set rooftop units
  • Install ductwork
  • Exterior masonry work

Work has also began on the womans restroom.

3-31-10

31 03 2010

Today they brought a crane in to set the rest of the SIPs. The brick layers have been busy installing a water barrier / flashing. They are removing 4 layers of brick, gluing a rubber material to the interior wall then sweeping it down to the bottom row of bricks, then bricking the slot back up. They then put in weep holes, which is a way for water to escape from behind the brick. This is to prevent any water that passes through the brick from coming down into the finished portion of the foyer. I was also able to capture our very own Steve and Richard assembling a trash dumpster fence. The majority of it all is recycled from the old one.

3-30-10

30 03 2010

More SIPs were installed on the lobby portion today. Many of the parapet walls were also installed, they are the short walls which run along the parameter of the building with the idea to hide the roof from the ground. Eldecon, the electrical contractor moved a lot of supplies and tools in today, electrical rough in will start soon. Also, brick layers are on site. I believe they will be working on patching the holes that were left in the building when the canopies were removed. I also believe they are working on a flashing system, but I will have to double check on that. It appears some exterior insulating panels were installed today, as well. There are many different companies on site doing their job with the plan to bring this all together.

3-23-10

23 03 2010

The pads for the vestibule entrance were poured today. More SIPs were installed, along with more framing. Attached are pictures of the men’s restroom all finished. The womens will be started shortly after Easter. The construction site will be all cleaned up and available for a walk-around on Sunday, be sure to come check it out!

3-22-10

22 03 2010

Today more SIPs were installed on the North end, work continued on framing up the South entrance, and concrete was poured around the base of the supporting columns.

All the steel has been erected. The schedule said it would take 15 days and Builder’s Steel got it done in 8. The load bearing stud walls on the west side have also been constructed. The large wooden items are called SIP roof decks which stands for Structural Insulated Panel. They are a foam and wood sandwich which works really well for insulating. Just do a google search for SIP Roof deck if you would like to find more information on them. Pearce is installing those and should take about 10 days. Once those are installed it will be time to start the building closure part of the schedule.

A quick timelapse from the webcam of the steel going up.
